Redskins’ crushing Dwayne Haskins critique angers ESPN reporter

A bad day just keeps getting worse for the Redskins.

The team fired Jay Gruden in a 5 a.m. meeting on Monday and then their criticism of Dwayne Haskins to one ESPN reporter drew the ire of another.

First, Diana Russini reported Redskins sources said Haskins holds the ball too much and is struggling identifying defenses.

“In terms of him being ready at this point, I’m told he’s not,” she said on “Get Up” Monday morning.

“In fact, one coach said to me not only is he not ready right now, but it could be a year or maybe even two more years before Dwayne Haskins can actually be a starter in Washington. So now it’s really going to come down to whether [owner] Dan Snyder and [general manager] Bruce Allen want to roll the rookie out and just see what they have, and perhaps evaluate and make a decision whether or not he’s the future.”

ESPN colleague Josina Anderson responded to Russini’s reporting and the Redskins’ sentiment with a tweet suggesting there was a stereotype involved regarding Haskins, who is black.

“Suggesting Dwayne Haskins is not going 2b ready this season or possibly two & is incapable of learning defenses might be the most manipulative comment I’ve heard in a while & it plays on tropes,” Anderson wrote. “Now he’s not intelligent too? Stop it. The narrative on Jared Goff changed with help.”
