WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats subpoenaed President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani as they ramp up their now week-old impeachment inquiry.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel (D-NY) and Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) sent Giuliani a letter Monday requesting the former New York City mayor turn over his communications and other documents relating to his interactions with the Ukrainian government.
The Democrats said they were looking into two “politically-motivated investigations.”
“The first is a prosecution of Ukrainians who provided evidence against Mr. Trump’s convicted campaign chairman, Paul Manafort,” the letter read.
“The second relates to former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., who is challenging President Trump for the presidency in 2020.”
Giuliani has until Oct. 15 to turn over the documents.
