3-year-old dies, another critical after Florida pool party

A 3-year-old girl drowned and another is in critical condition after the pair slipped out of their floaties when no one was looking at a pool party in Florida, according to a new report.

The two tots were attending a birthday party with about eight other kids in Tampa when the tragic accident occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday, local station WTSP reported.

They were swimming in the shallow end of the pool and were wearing floaties but somehow managed to wriggle their way out, according to the report.

Nearby resident Addison Vicedo, a former lifeguard, heard frantic screams and ran down from his apartment to see what was going on, he told the station.

“I figured it was kids playing at first and then I realized that those screams didn’t sound too right,” Vicedo said.

Vicedo said he helped three parents — including the mother of the girl who drowned — perform CPR on the girls.

One of the girls did have a pulse, but the other did not, he recalled.

Both were rushed to Tampa General Hospital. Authorities are investigating but don’t expect charges to be filed.

“My prayers go out to both of their families,” Vicedo told the station. “Especially the one who didn’t make it.”
