Two dead as roller coaster car derails in Mexico City

Two people were killed when a roller-coaster car derailed and plummeted to the ground at an amusement park in Mexico City, according to news reports.

The horror occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday at La Feria de Chapultepec in Mexico’s capital, killing two men — 18 and 21 years old — and injuring two women, ages 27 and 35, WOFL-TV in Florida reported.

Cell-phone video posted on Twitter by the Mexican news site Mileno.com shows the seconds before the deadly crash, as the coaster enters a turn and goes out of view.

A split second later, the crash can be heard, as park revelers begin to scream in the background.

Witnesses told the news outlet that the victims were riding in the last car of the coaster when it derailed.

A spokesman for the attorney general’s office told the station that the two men suffered head injuries.

One of the hurt women suffered a “severe brain injury” and was in serious condition, while the other had a leg injury, according to WOFL.

Local authorities said an investigation has been launched into the incident.
