President Trump said on Sunday that he wants to meet the “accuser” behind allegations made against him in a recently-revealed whistleblower complaint.
“Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser,” Trump tweeted.
“[E]specially when this accuser, the so-called ‘Whistleblower,’ represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way.”
The president was referencing the person — identified by The New York Times as a CIA officer — behind a formal whistleblower complaint alleging a phone conversation between Trump and the Ukrainian president was improper.
The complaint sparked an “official impeachment inquiry” by House Democrats.
Trump continued to claim that the “accuser” only had information about the call to President Volodymyr Zelensky through “SECOND & THIRD HAND INFORMATION.”
He pledged to find out where the “incorrect” details had originally come from.
“I want to meet not only my accuser… but also the person who illegally gave this information, which was largely incorrect, to the ‘Whistleblower,’ ” he wrote.
“Was this person SPYING on the U.S. President? Big Consequences!”
According to the Whistleblower Protection Act, passed by Congress in 1998, it is illegal to retaliate against an employee who exposes unlawful or unethical activities.
In addition, the president blasted House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff for “blatant and sinister” lies and asked that Schiff be questioned “for Fraud & Treason.”
