The Washington Redskins have had a disastrous start to the season, and a loss against the Giants Sunday at MetLife Stadium would leave them 0-4, but Jay Gruden’s job isn’t in danger just yet.
Gruden, who’s in his sixth season as Redskins head coach, does not need a win against the Giants to keep his job, according to NFL Network. While Gruden will remain head coach regardless of Sunday’s result, he is on the hot seat and a coaching change later in the season hasn’t been ruled out, the report added.
The 52-year-old has a 35-47-1 record since taking over the job in 2014. Washington has been without Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams, who has a strained relationship with the organization and wants to be traded. Gruden also angered Adrian Peterson and other team veterans when he made Peterson a healthy scratch in Week 1.
NFL Network added Gruden isn’t expected to make any changes to his coaching staff to try to salvage the season, but a quarterback change could come at some point. Gruden has seemed reluctant thus far to make the switch from journeyman Case Keenum to first-round pick Dwayne Haskins, but things could change if the Redskins’ struggles continue.
