‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin teases potential return to WWE ring

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin has opened the door to a stunning WWE return by insisting he “physically” could have one more match.

The Hall of Famer, 54, is up on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling greats alongside the likes of The Rock, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

Unfortunately for the Austin, real name Steven Anderson, his in-ring career was cut short due to neck injuries and he hung up his black trunks and boots in 2003 on medical advice.

However, that has not stopped Austin from “raising hell” with a number of memorable cameo appearances since his retirement.

He remains one of the most-loved wrestlers on the planet, as was demonstrated by the roof nearly blowing off the arenas with his two most-recent returns for the Raw Reunion and this month’s “Monday Night Raw Special” at Madison Square Garden.

WWE’s money-spinning deal with Saudi Arabia has led to a number of fellow icons pulling on their tights again for one more match. Shawn Michaels came out of retirement in 2018 and has been followed by Goldberg this year for a big payday in the Middle East.

And with Austin still in great shape, that has led to many asking him the “one more match” question.

Never one to mince his words or bite his tongue, the six-time WWE champion has now got wrestling fans excited about seeing him in action for a final time by answering it on his latest “Stone Cold Podcast.”

“For the last couple of weeks, down there at the Raw reunion in Tampa, down there at the Madison Square Garden show at ‘Monday Night Raw’ – people always ask me, ‘Hey man, you’re still in really good shape. You got one more match left in you?’ Austin said.

“And I tell them, ‘Man.’ I say, ‘You know, it’s a tough thing to think about.’ Physically, would I be able to have one more match? Yes, most definitely, and I could make it to that match without being injured. Although the risks are always there, just because I think all of the surgeries, I had… where I had the spinal stenosis, and getting that bone spur taken off my spinal cord – I’m in a good place.

“Nerves are feeling a lot better than they used to. So, you know, in theory, could I have a match? In theory, yes.”

WWE is set for another event in Saudi Arabia in around six weeks, although it has yet to be officially announced.

His final match saw him lose to The Rock at WrestleMania 19.
