A New Jersey music producer who has worked with a variety of notable artists — including Yes lead singer Jon Anderson – has died of injuries suffered when he was hit by a tire blown off a dump truck, according to a report.
Jim DeSalvo, 53, of Wayne, was riding his bicycle in town two weeks ago when he was injured in the freak accident on Black Oak Ridge Road, according to NJ.com.
He was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where he remained on life support until he succumbed to his injuries Monday night, according to a GoFundMe page created for him.
“Tonight, surrounded by his father Jack Sr., brother Jack Jr., and holding the hand of Cat, his loving wife of 20 years, James John DeSalvo departed this life and reunited with his beloved mother Kathleen in that special place he liked to call ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’,” read a post on the page, which had raised more than $52,000 by Wednesday morning.
During his 34-year career, DeSalvo, a father of two, worked as a songwriter and music producer at Beanstudio Mastering in Wayne.
In addition to Anderson, he worked with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, according to his website.
“While working at EMI Music in New York, I had the area’s best mastering studios in my reach. I became friends with mastering engineers in the mastering rooms at The Hit Factory and BMG Studios as well as hounding about at mid-level rooms in the area,” he wrote in his bio.
The latest post on the fundraising page reads: “The DeSalvos are blown away by this and all of your support and wish to say thank you from the bottom of their hearts.
“Life won’t ever be the same without the Bean around to jazz it up but he leaves behind a big legacy in the thousands of lives he touched, in his family’s hearts, and in the people whose lives he saved last night through the generous donation of his organs. A hero to the end.”
No charges have been filed in the accident as the investigation into DeSalvo’s death continues.
