Move over Pizza Rat, here’s Nutella Squirrel

This is nuts.

A hilarious image shows a squirrel trying to eat a Nutella snack pack on an East Village street last week.

The furry-tailed critter tried to get at the hazelnut and cocoa spread by placing its entire face over the tub, while clutching the container with its claws and squatting on a tree root on Fifth Street between First Avenue and Avenue A.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Courtney Hill, a New Yorker of 13 years who captured the rodent mid-bite.

“I was walking down the street in the morning, heading home from getting coffee, and there he was,” Hill said. “It all clicked right away, the irony of it, it was indeed a squirrel clutching tenaciously to Nutella.”

It’s unclear if the creature with eyes too big for its stomach ever got to enjoy the fancy snack — it got spooked as Hill, 35, inched closer to get the best shot.

Asked how the nutty animal compared to other infamous Big Apple rodents like Pizza Rat, Hill said this squirrel was “more on-brand … he was having a much more easy morning than Pizza Rat, who was really working for that slice.”

Hill, who works in financial services, is a huge fan of the Italian spread, saying: “It took everything in me not to tear it out of his little claws and see if there was any left for me.”

“With any luck he’ll have a little moment,” Hill said of the squirrel. “But I hope the fame doesn’t get to his head.”
