A 74-year-old man lost his leg to a subway train late Wednesday morning when he lost consciousness and fell onto the tracks, police said.

The man was standing near the yellow line at the Herald Square subway station near West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue around 11:55 a.m. when police believe he fainted and fell onto the tracks right as a northbound R train was approaching, police and witnesses said.

“He was standing too close to the edge and he slipped, and the train went over him. That’s why they tell you, don’t stand too close to the yellow line,” an MTA worker told The Post.

“He lost his whole leg. I think he was standing too close to the edge and might have fainted, I don’t know. When it’s hot like this, people stand too close to the edge, they end up fainting and this is what happens,” another worker added.

Cops confirmed the leg was severed.

The man was brought to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to survive, officials said.
