Dog who spent 400 days at animal shelter is finally adopted

A dog whot spent 400 days at a Kansas animal shelter now has a forever home — exactly a week after a man moved into her kennel and vowed to live there until the pup was adopted.

Animal advocate Scott Poore — who had been staying with 3-year-old terrier mix Queen in her 10-by-7 quarters since Sept. 17 — walked his “roommate” out of the Great Plains SPCA in Merriam and into her new owner’s car Tuesday as people cheered and threw confetti, video posted to his organization’s Facebook page shows.

“Queen has left the building, thanks to an amazing man who fell in love with her story,” Poore wrote. “This week has been exhausting and an emotional roller coaster, but this video makes it all worth it.”

A second video shows Poore finally walking out of the shelter with his suitcase.

Surprisingly, Queen’s new owner, Tony Puluso, had no idea about Poore’s viral campaign, he told local station KMBC.

“I could not believe that she had been here as long as she had,” Puluso said. “She is a perfectly sweet dog and she just reminds me of a little stuffed animal. And I just immediately fell in love with her.”

Poore runs an organization called Mission Driven Goods, which helps homeless pets. He devotes special attention to animals like Queen, who have been repeatedly passed over by potential adopters.
