Convertible slams school bus, driver gets wedged underneath

A South Carolina man miraculously survived when he smashed his shiny red convertible into the back of a loaded school bus Wednesday and got stuck under the vehicle.

Dennis Wade Allen ended up trapped inside the car but was pulled out with only minor injuries — faring much better than his 1993 Mazda Miata, which was totaled in the 8 a.m. wreck, the Greenville, South Carolina, Police Department said on Facebook.

Allen, 62, was then hit with a charge of “following too closely.”

The school bus, carrying 60 students from the nearby Beck Academy, was stopped at a regular bus stop, with “light an signage deployed,” when it got hit, local school officials told WGAL-TV.

None of the students were seriously hurt, but one did complain about shoulder pain, Greenville County School District spokesperson Beth Brotherton told the station.

She said the students were being given “a chance to decompress” after the accident.
