Bodycam shows moment cop fatally shoots man charging at him with knife

Shocking bodycam footage shows a knife-wielding man charging at a Minnesota cop, who shoots him dead.

The clip, released by St. Paul’s police department, shows officer Steve Mattson inside his squad car on Sept. 15, when he’s rear-ended by another motorist.

As he gets out of his car, the officer immediately starts shouting in shock as Ronald Davis charges at him, knocking him to the ground.

“Holy f–k! What the f–k!” the officer cries, getting to his feet — as 31-year-old Davis still comes at him.

“Get away from me,” the officer warns, raising his service weapon. “Drop the knife. Drop the f–king knife!”

Davis, who can be seen holding a blade as well as a flashlight, ignores the repeated warning and continues charging at the cop, who takes him down with two gunshots.

Davis remained motionless as the officer backed away to safety behind his squad car.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said at a press conference that the footage showed “an officer who had no choice but to defend himself against an immediate and violent threat,” according to WCCO.

However, activists who have protested the shooting say it still does not clear up what sparked the deadly confrontation.

“The video footage that was released actually leaves us with more questions than answers,” civil rights lawyer Nekima Levy Armstrong told WCCO. “We don’t see the full scope of what happened.”

The shooting is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the station said.
