Gen. Chen visits Chinatown to talk medals for Chinese-American vets

Retired Major Gen. William S. Chen visited an American Legion post in Chinatown Saturday to discuss the Chinese-American World War II Veteran Congressional Gold Medal.

Chen, the first Chinese-American two-star general, discussed the lobbying effort to pass the bill authorizing the medal and the nominating process for it at the Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater NY and the American Legion Lt. B.R. Kimlau Chinese Memorial Post 1291.

About 20,000 Chinese-Americans veterans fought in the war.
