The Massachusetts woman who urged her boyfriend in a text message to commit suicide will go before a parole board Thursday to ask for early release from prison.
Michelle Carter, 22, has served seven months of a 15-month sentence following her conviction on involuntary manslaughter charges.
Carter was 17 when she encouraged her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III, 18, to “get back in” to his carbon monoxide-filled truck after he had second thoughts in 2014.
The young woman has been a “model inmate” at the women’s center at the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, a sheriff’s office told the Boston Herald.
A decision on her release isn’t immediately required. Carter is expected to attend the meeting, which is closed to the public.
Lawyers for Carter argued her texts were constitutionally protected free speech. They have appealed her conviction to the US Supreme Court.
