South Carolina man found guilty of kidnapping missing mistress

A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for kidnapping his former mistress who hasn’t been seen for nearly six years.

Sidney Moorer was found guilty Wednesday on charges stemming from the December 2013 disappearance of Heather Elvis, a 20-year-old hostess who went missing from Myrtle Beach.

Moorer, 43, and the young woman allegedly had an affair before she vanished and abandoned her car at a local boat landing.

Prosecutors allege that cellphone records put the defendant and his wife, Tammy Moorer, at the scene of her disappearance. But the defense argued that there’s no DNA evidence that links the couple to the case.

Tammy Moorer was sentenced to 60 years in prison in October 2018 on kidnapping and conspiracy charges in the case.
