Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson expects to see plenty of Patriots All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore on Sunday in New England. He also expects for Gilmore to get away with holding.
“He’s one of the best,” Anderson said. “He holds a lot, gets away with it. I’ve got to come with my ‘A’ game.”
The Jets could use a big game from Anderson, who has seven catches for 104 yards this season and has not yet scored. With third-string quarterback Luke Falk starting, the Jets’ offense is going to face a stiff challenge from a Patriots team that has not allowed a touchdown this season.
“They’re a great defense, the Super Bowl champs,” Anderson said. “It’s going to be a tough challenge, but we’ve got to go out there and do what we’ve got to do.”
Anderson said Gilmore followed him in the two games last year and he expects to be matched up with him again Sunday. Anderson views it as a sign of respect.
“Bill [Belichick], he knows what he’s doing,” Anderson said. “A lot of people say technically I’m not a No. 1 receiver, but teams usually put their No. 1 corner on me, so that’s a telltale.”
Anderson made it clear that despite his dig about Gilmore holding, he is one of the best corners in the league.
“He’s up there. He’s a very good corner. I’ve got a lot of respect for him,” Anderson said.
The Jets had hoped rookie DL Quinnen Williams would practice Thursday, but he was limited to doing work on a side field with the training staff. It is unclear if Williams will miss another game with the ankle injury he suffered in Week 1.
“We’re just trying to gauge where he was at,” coach Adam Gase said. “There were a lot of things that we’re going really well through that first part of the rehab and [Wednesday] we did some other things and we felt like let’s leave him inside, let’s kind of work on strengthening some stuff and then see if we can get him out [Friday].”
Williams, LB C.J. Mosley (groin), WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring/knee) and LB Jordan Jenkins (calf) did not practice Thursday. Gase has not ruled Mosley out for Sunday, but it is not a good sign that he is not practicing. With the bye week coming next week, the Jets also may opt to get him extra rest and make sure he is 100 percent for Week 5 against the Eagles.
Patriots QB Tom Brady was limited in practice again Thursday with a calf injury, but is expected to play.
