Queens activist to challenge AOC in Democratic primary

A Democratic activist from Queens has announced she’ll challenge Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a primary for her congressional seat.

Badrun Khan, who officially filed her candidacy in July, announced her campaign on Wednesday, according to The Hill.

When asked about the new challenger, Ocasio-Cortez told the site, “I just focus on delivering for my district and doing the best job. I try not to focus too much on other folks in the field.”

Khan, who is from New York, was raised by Bengali-born parents and is “heavily involved in her Bengali Community throughout the city,” according to her campaign site.

She graduated college from Marymount Manhattan College, and for the last seven years has worked as a financial officer in education.

Khan’s campaign site describes her as “a proud Democrat, advocate, community activist, mother and a proud daughter of an immigrant family [who has] has spent her entire life fighting for justice, equality and fairness in her community.”

Khan appears to be the first Democrat to announce a primary bid against Ocasio-Cortez. So far, five Republicans have filed to run for her seat.

On Tuesday, The Post reported how a “Stop The AOC” political action committee survey of Democrats in her Bronx-Queens 14th Congressional District found she’s susceptible to challengers.

The survey found that 47 percent of Democrats in the 14th District view her favorably and 29 percent unfavorably, with 24 percent unsure.
