Pennsylvania man survives after shooting himself in head with crossbow

A Pennsylvania man tried to commit suicide Thursday by shooting himself in the head with a crossbow, according to reports.

The 29-year-old man survived the attempt on his life as the small bolt did not penetrate far, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported, citing an Ambridge police official.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident happened at around 9 a.m. inside a home on Beaver Road.

“Thank goodness it wasn’t a very powerful one. It barely penetrated the skull,” Ambridge police Lt. Brian Jameson said, according to the news outlet.

Jameson said the victim called a friend who went to the home and found the man.

“He was alert and conscious when we were there,” Jameson said. “It was still lodged.”

Medics had the man taken to a Pittsburgh hospital via a medical helicopter.

“They weren’t sure of the extent of the injuries,” said Jameson.
