Giants end Pat Shurmur’s WFAN spot with Mike Francesa as feud reaches breaking point

Pat Shurmur hung up on Mike Francesa.

The Giants ended Shurmur’s 15-minute weekly spot with the outspoken WFAN host, just days after Francesa ripped him and the team following an 0-2 start, the coach confirmed.

“I think that was an organizational decision not to do that,” Shurmur told reporters Thursday following Newsday’s report. “Most people aren’t aware of this, but I wasn’t contractually obligated to do that spot. We did it as a courtesy and out of respect for our relationship with the radio station. We just felt like for a while, just put that to bed for a while and not do it and move forward.”

Francesa, known to have a short leash with callers, has had a beef with the Giants since Dave Gettleman selected Daniel Jones — now the starting quarterback — with the No. 6 pick, which Francesa thought was way too early in the draft.

“You look like a bad team through two weeks,” Francesa told Shurmur on Monday. “I hate to say it, but you look like a terrible team. You’re not good at anything.”

The Giants spent Tuesday “trying to figure out how they could continue to take the ‘high road’ with Francesa,” The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported, before deciding to end the spot.

Francesa — who also blasted the Giants for taking Corey Ballentine after the cornerback was shot following the draft (he has since apologized) — was denied access to Gettleman during training camp, and then ditched his annual program from the camp.

Eli Manning ended his weekly spot with Francesa this season in order to spend more time with his family. Past Giants head coaches have also had weekly spots with Francesa.
