Well-known Democratic donor Ed Buck will face federal charges in the 2017 overdose death of a homeless man at his West Hollywood home, according to a new report.
Buck, 65, is expected to be transferred to federal custody Thursday and charged in the death of Gemmel Moore, a 26-year-old male prostitute who suffered a fatal crystal meth overdose in Buck’s home, CBS Los Angeles reported, citing sources.
The wealthy activist was arrested Tuesday on state charges related to the overdose of an unidentified 37-year-old man, who fled Buck’s home and later told police Buck had administered “two dangerously large doses of methamphetamine” on Sept. 11. That man survived.
Buck initially dodged criminal charges in Moore’s death, as well as in the fatal meth overdose of another man, Timothy Dean, 55, who died in January at Buck’s home.
Los Angeles County prosecutors made it clear in court documents that Buck was considered a suspect in both deaths.
Buck is expected to be arraigned in state court Thursday, then transferred to federal custody. Prosecutors indicated they will ask for $4 million bail, calling the LGBT activist “a violent, dangerous sexual predator.”
Following Moore’s death, police recovered from Buck’s apartment 24 hypodermic needles, five glass narcotics smoking pipes, methamphetamine and sex toys, according to court documents.
Buck, who made his millions through an Arizona courier business that he’s since offloaded, has donated to the campaigns of prominent Democrats, including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
