Woman accused of murdering husband tells cops, ‘He was trying to kill me’

A Washington woman reportedly was arrested and charged with killing her husband Sunday, but she claimed it was done in self-defense — telling police that “he was trying to kill me.”

Stephanie Westby, 47, was charged with murdering her 51-year-old husband, Joseph Westby, at the couple’s Camas, Wash., home, according to KATU 2.

When officers arrived, Joseph Westby was already dead from a gunshot wound.

Before the shooting, Stephanie called 911 and “reported that [her husband] was threatening to kill her and attack her, and she acted in self-defense,” her attorney, Steve Thayer, told the outlet.

Stephanie later repeated the claim to police, telling them that “he attacked me and said he was going to kill me,” the report said, citing court documents.

Detectives at the house found no “overt signs normally associated with a physical altercation,” the report said.

The couple’s children, 18 and 16, told investigators that their parents had been experiencing marital issues since May.

Stephanie on Tuesday posted $500,000 bail and is expected to be let out on supervised release.
