Unlicensed driver charged in death of toddler on Bronx street

A 22-year-old Staten Island man was arrested on several charges — including unlicensed driving — after his vehicle jumped a curb in the Bronx and killed a 1-year-old girl in a stroller, police said.

Kier Boneparte lost control of his 2002 BMW SUV while traveling north near East 215th Street and White Plains Road in Williamsbridge around 4 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.

He slammed into an unoccupied parked car, then crashed into the little girl, pinning her and her stroller against the wall, according to police.

Boneparte, who remained at the scene, was hit with a slew of charges including reckless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian causing injury and operating a vehicle without a license.

The child, identified as Djeneba Magassa, was transported to Montefiore Medical Center, where she died, police said.

Neighbors on Wednesday visited a makeshift memorial of candles and flowers outside an African restaurant on the corner where the child was killed.

The spot is just a half-block from the East 215th Street building where Djeneba lived with her mother, who is from Mali, according to workers at the restaurant. A neighbor said the mother left the home with her older child early Wednesday.

“She’s doing OK,” said the mother’s female cousin and roommate, who refused to give her name. “I haven’t seen her since last night. She lives with me. I was told to say nothing.”

Boneparte is due to be arraigned Wednesday in Bronx Criminal Court.
