Odell Beckham turns watch controversy into endorsement deal

It was only a matter of time.

Odell Beckham Jr. finally has a partnership with a watch company as Daniel Wellington announced Wednesday that the Browns wide receiver is one of their new “Icons.”

“We are so proud to work with @obj, who besides from being an amazing athlete clearly loves watches. If we’re his second choice after a six figure watch, we’re happy,” the company tweeted.

Beckham made headlines for his wristwear in Week 1 after sporting a designer Richard Mille watch worth $189,500. The NFL warned him for wearing a hard object, which he claimed was plastic but that he would continue wearing it if he wanted.

On Monday, before he torched the Jets with six catches for 161 yards and a touchdown in his return to MetLife Stadium, Beckham appeared to be wearing an even more expensive Richard Mille watch, though he ditched it in time for the game, and the authenticity of the watch has been questioned.

Beckham was not a partner for Richard Mille, but he now is for Daniel Wellington, to whom he gave a shoutout in his postgame press conference Monday.

“I think Daniel Wellington might be a better watch than these, a little classier, not as flashy as this one,” Beckham said. “I’m just blessed.”
