Nebraska teen starts apartment fire burning ex’s love letters

Maybe they met on Tinder.

A Nebraska teen used a butane torch to burn love letters from her ex inside her bedroom – sparking an apartment fire Monday, it was reported Wednesday.

Ariauna Lillard, 19, was home alone in the apartment at the time of the 4:30 p.m. blaze, The Smoking Gun reported.

She initially thought the missives didn’t catch, and just left them on the floor, the Lincoln Police Department posted on Facebook.

“They weren’t starting on fire like she thought they would so she set them on the carpet and went to take a nap,” Lincoln police said.

The teen woke a short time later to a blaring smoke detector.

Crews from Lincoln Fire and Rescue put the fire out in minutes and no one was injured, police said.

The fire caused around $4,000 in damage. Lillard was cited for negligent burning and is scheduled for an Oct. 16 court appearance, The Smoking Gun reported.
