Giancarlo Stanton has dream first at-bat in Yankees return

Giancarlo Stanton didn’t miss a beat in his first major league at-bat in nearly three months.

The 29-year-old outfielder welcomed himself back into the Yankees lineup with a leadoff double in the second inning of Wednesday’s matchup with the Angels. It marked Stanton’s first big-league at-bat since he suffered a strained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee back in June.

Stanton went 1-for-3 on the night, and was replaced in left field by Tyler Wade in the top of the seventh inning, as manager Aaron Boone planned.

Stanton looked mobile and comfortable as he rounded the bases, which was an encouraging sign considering the series of other injuries he’s been through this season.

The leftfielder had played in only nine games to date, hitting one home run and seven RBIs to go along with a .290 batting average coming into Wednesday’s game.
