Cowboys release Taco Charlton, mock him on the way out

Taco is on the market.

The Cowboys released third-year defensive end Taco Charlton on Wednesday, giving him his wish two days after he tweeted “Free me” in response to being inactive for the first two games of the season.

Before cutting him loose, to make room for Robert Quinn who is returning from a suspension, the Cowboys reportedly tried to trade Charlton.

Instead, he will be subject to waivers.

The Cowboys’ team website rubbed it in on Charlton’s way out, posting the news with the headline, “Street Taco: Cowboys Waive Charlton For Quinn.”

Charlton was the Cowboys first-round pick (No. 28 overall) in 2017 out of Michigan. He recorded four sacks and eight tackles for loss in 27 games across two seasons. He hung onto his roster spot this year with a solid preseason, in which he tallied two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, but it did not last long.
