Woman hit by subway after leaping in front of train: cops

A woman jumped in front of a subway train on the East Side Monday afternoon, landing in the hospital, authorities said.

The southbound No. 6 train struck the unidentified woman at the 96th Street station just before 12:30 p.m., according to police.

The train motorman told police he saw the woman jump in front of the train, police said.

Ian MacDonald told The Post he was on the platform waiting for the train arrive when he spotted someone walking the tunnel but thought nothing of it.

“I thought it was just a worker,” the 42-year-old said. “Then boom.”

The train slammed on the brakes as it pulled into the station, leaving all but two cars in the tunnel, he said.

“The conductor asked me, ‘Is there a person under the train?'” MacDonald recalled.

“‘I assume so,'” he said he responded. “Then I heard this wild shrieking. Obviously, she was alive. The big concern was her bleeding out.”

Emergency workers rushed to pull the woman from under the train, and EMS took the woman to Mount Sinai St Luke’s hospital for injuries to her head.

She is expected to survive, cops said.
