Jacoby Ellsbury update shows how sad this really is

Long-forgotten in this season filled with injuries is the Yankees’ most notorious ailed player.

But $153 million man Jacoby Ellsbury is still rehabbing, even if it seems only a miracle could get him back in pinstripes.

Ellsbury worked out indoors Friday in Tampa, according to The Associated Press. The soon-to-be 36-year-old is nearing the conclusion of a second consecutive year without playing in a major league game.

It’s unclear what the workouts consisted of. Ellsbury had left hip surgery in August 2018 and been slowed by other injuries, including plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

Ellsbury is guaranteed more than $21 million in 2020, the final season of a seven-year contract that includes a $21 million team option for 2021 with a $5 million buyout.
