Cardi B, Fat Joe and Anuel AA’s new single ‘Yes’ has Bronx attitude
The boogie down Bronx is back in full force.
Rapper Fat Joe dropped “Yes,” a thumping track featuring fellow Bronx native Cardi B, 26, and breakout trap star Anuel AA, 26, whose hit “China” has stoked the Billboard Hot 100 charts all summer.
Fat Joe, who just celebrated his 49th birthday, has a recurring, R-rated “Yes” mantra: “A** up, face down” — and it flows hard over a sample of Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe’s haunting salsa classic, “Aguanilé.”
Trivia: That 1972 tune was inspired by the hybrid Yoruba and Spanish word aguanilé, which followers of the Santería religion describe as a “spiritual cleanse,” Rolling Stone reports.
Grammy-winning hip-hop queen Cardi B — dubbing herself “La Cardi” — takes a break from battling 10-year-olds to pop off a typically brutal verse: “Murder and the money on my mind/My palm and my trigger finger itch. I’ve been in my bag, hopping out of jets.”
Not to be outdone by the “Hustler” star, Anuel AA spits his staccato rhymes in Spanish: “For the record I just made, they already gave me 15 million,” he brags.
Fat Joe’s 12th album, “Family Ties,” a collaboration with Dre of the powerhouse production duo Cool & Dre, is tentatively set to drop later this year.
