A 7-year-old boy is the first reported Hurricane Dorian-related death, according to local reports.
Lachino Mcintosh drowned as his family tried to flee the monstrous Category 5 storm as it bore down on the Abaco Islands, the Bahamas Press reported.
The local news site said Lachino’s sister is among the dozens now reported missing.
Dorian slammed into the Bahamas with 165-mph sustained winds — then stalled over the islands Monday morning at 1 mph in what forecasters believe will be a day-long assault.
On Sunday, Dorian’s maximum sustained winds clocked in at 185 mph, with gusts up to 220 mph, tying the record for the most powerful Atlantic hurricane to ever make landfall.
It equaled the Labor Day hurricane of 1935, before storms were named.
The only recorded storm that was more powerful was Hurricane Allen in 1980, with 190-mph winds. But Allen did not make landfall at that strength.
Dorian is expected to creep toward Florida early Tuesday, though forecasts vary on its exact track.
