Twins vs. Tigers: Ex-Yankee Michael Pineda will propel Minnesota

Kirsten Gillibrand bowed out of the presidential race. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, speaking with Seth Barron of the City Journal, labeled her the “worst candidate ever,” adding, “I can’t think of anyone nastier, self-centered or dumber, can you?” Barron replied, “Well yeah, but I mean, Mayor de Blasio is kind of a close second.”

First-place Twins are in Detroit taking on the last-place Tigers. Minnesota, 43 games better, have been road warriors all season. They’re 44-22 heading into Saturday’s game. Michael Pineda has won his past three games. Allowed one run over five innings to the White Sox in his last outing and should keep the Tigers tied up. Detroit, 17-47 at home, hand the ball to Spencer Turnbull. He’s 3-13 on the year, 0-5 in his past seven starts with a 6.55 ERA for the month of August. Any given Sunday? Maybe. But we will back the Twins for 10 units.

Cubs didn’t hit and were blanked by the Brewers 2-0. Zach Davies scattered four hits and the bullpen was better, allowing just two. Cubs’ Cole Hamels was touched for two runs in the opening frame but received no run support. We leave August at -622 reushels.
