Alouettes vs. Argonauts: Take the Over in this CFL battle

The Montreal Alouettes pulled off a stirring comeback win at the Calgary Stampeders last week, erasing a fourth-quarter deficit for a 40-34 overtime victory. It was one of the most exciting CFL games of the season, a wild, back-and-forth contest filled with intensity.

Vernon Adams is cementing his hold of the No. 1 quarterback spot for the Alouettes and is developing some strong leadership qualities in the process. Montreal will need to refocus in a hurry as it takes on the lowly Toronto Argonauts, who are tied with the BC Lions in the CFL basement.

Toronto’s effort was there last week in a 41-26 loss to Edmonton, but the Argos’ defense struggled. Their secondary was carved up by the Eskimos’ passing game, and there was no pass rush all night against QB Trevor Harris. The Argos’ offense was pretty good as they ran well and QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson also was able to move the football through the air, but the difference was the Argos settling for field goals in the red zone while the Eskimos scored touchdowns.

Montreal’s defense suffered a blow last week with safety Taylor Loffler getting injured, and he has been ruled out of this game. Toronto’s defense is probably worse now after trading Shawn Lemon to BC, and its defensive front is struggling to get pressure.

There is a reason this total is the highest one on the board in Week 11. I think we’ll see points in bunches Sunday afternoon between two teams that should be in better shape offensively than defensively.

The Play: Montreal-Toronto Over 54 ¹/₂ points.
