Giants tight end turns in breakout performance

Highlights from the Giants practice on Friday:

Something good

Rookie tight end C.J. Conrad took some reps with the first-team offense Friday and made a strong catch early on a pass from Eli Manning. His day included a drop or two on passes from Daniel Jones, but he finished strong, connecting with Kyle Lauletta for a pair of touchdowns.

Something bad

It was a tough day to be a third- or fourth-teamer. Those units are already battling for reps, but got mostly shut out of 11-on-11 drills Friday as the Giants cut back on reps, perhaps because of a lack of healthy players.

Caught My Eye

Corey Ballentine was back deep to return kickoffs late in practice and flashed his speed and shiftiness. The rookie has stood out in practices early on at cornerback, but adding special teams always helps.

Keeping Up With The Jones

It was a solid day for Jones — nothing as eye-popping as he has shown in other practices, but he got his work in without turning the ball over. He was 6-for-11 in team drills and 2-for-3 in 7-on-7, though he didn’t always get help from his receivers.

Medical report

Rookie LB Oshane Ximines and OT Chad Wheeler were new additions to the group working off to the side and not practicing. LB B.J. Goodson (hamstring) returned to individual drills, but did not participate in 11-on-11. CB Grant Haley (shoulder), CB Sam Beal (hamstring), CB Henre’ Toliver (ankle), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring), WR Brittan Golden (groin), LB Markus Golden (load management), OL George Asafo-Adjei (concussion) and DL Alex Jenkins remained out.
