Nate Robinson can empathize with Jeremy Lin.
Lin, who became the first Asian American to win the NBA championship as a reserve with the Toronto Raptors, broke down during an interview in Taiwan over the weekend over his uncertain future in the league.
Robinson wanted to let Lin know there’s an alternative.
“Bro I feel they gave up on me 2, but it ain’t over!!!” Robinson posted on Instagram. “Just come to the Big 3 we accept what the NBA don’t want!!!”
The Big3 is a professional 3-on-3 basketball league founded by artist Ice Cube and features many prominent ex-NBA players, including Robinson. Lin likely isn’t this desperate, but if he fails to find a new suitor in the NBA and prefers to stay in the country, he seemingly has an offer waiting for him.
“In English, there’s a saying and it says once you hit rock bottom, the only way is up,” Lin said in a speech in Taiwan that received national attention here. “But rock bottom just seems to keep getting more and more rock bottom for me. So, free agency has been tough. Because I feel in some ways the NBA’s kind of given up on me.”
Now a month into free agency, Lin, 30, remains without a team. Lin’s unprecedented run with the Knicks in 2012 drew league-wide hysteria, and he should seemingly draw interest as a backup or reserve point guard somewhere, especially on a veteran’s minimum deal. He reportedly has interest from CSKA Moskow in Russia, but Robinson, another ex-Knick point guard, has other ideas.
