Bill de Blasio warns New Yorkers about storm — from Michigan

Mayor Bill de Blasio is alerting New Yorkers about an impending storm — from over 600 miles away in partly sunny Detroit.

We have a severe thunderstorm warning for our area throughout the afternoon. Strong winds and heavy rain are predicted — if you have to be outside, please exercise caution, particularly during your commute,” de Blasio tweeted from his official mayoral account Wednesday afternoon.

The tweet almost makes it sound as if Hizzoner is governing from City Hall, but he’s a plane ride away in Michigan preparing for the second Democratic debates.

De Blasio faced heat for campaigning in Iowa earlier this month while parts of Manhattan suffered a blackout. When he returns to the Hawkeye State, he’ll encounter billboards erected by a group of constituents who are angry over his homeless policies.

Tuesday, also from Detroit, de Blasio again tried to show that he was on top of city problems through his official Twitter account.

“Right now the FDR is closed in BOTH directions around East 6th Street in Manhattan because of an incident with a construction crane nearby. Use alternate routes and avoid the area if you can. FDNY, OEM & Buildings Dept are on the ground to keep people safe and get this resolved,” he tweeted.
