3 children struck by car on Long Island just before 4 a.m.: cops

Three young boys were struck by a car on Long Island early Wednesday, according to authorities.

The children — two brothers, ages 9 and 13, and their 12-year-old cousin — were walking to a nearby 7-Eleven shortly before 4 a.m. when they were struck by a car as it traveled west on Sunrise Highway near Straight Path in Lindenhurst, Suffolk County police said.

Photographs from the scene showed a silver sedan stopped in the middle of the road with a shattered windshield.

The victims were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where the 13-year-old is in critical condition, his brother is in serious condition and the 12-year-old is stable, police said.

Police did not immediately suspect any criminality.
