Suspect flings banana at woman during robbery attempt at Midtown deli

One of three women wanted for an attempted robbery inside a Midtown deli tossed a banana at the victim, leading to a fight, cops said.

Surveillance footage from the incident released by police shows a young woman lob the fruit at the victim before one of her cohorts tried to steal the victim’s cell phone during a scuffle at the store near Madison Avenue and East 54th Street at about 6 p.m. on June 16.

Store workers then intervened and the suspect’s fled empty handed, cops said.

The attempted robbery actually began outside the deli when the trio of suspects, all believed to be between 16 and 20-years-old, surrounded the victim and smacked her in the head with an umbrella, police said.

The suspects first tried to steal the woman’s phone and bag while still outside, but the victim managed to flee into the deli.
