Yankees’ Severino, Betances keep getting rare good news

Dellin Betances and Luis Severino each threw again Wednesday before the Yankees-Rays postponement due to rain, and are scheduled on Thursday to throw on back-to-back days for the first time of their latest comeback attempts from lat strains. Boone said both could be back on a mound in “a couple of weeks … if everything continues to go well.”

Cameron Maybin (left calf strain) could start running the bases this week and may head out on a rehab stint when the Yankees go on the road next week. He could rejoin the team in two weeks.

Luke Voit was 9-for-18 with five doubles in four games before going down with an abdominal injury. He’s just 3-for-16 with nine strikeouts and no extra-base hits in four games since his return from the injured list.

“He’s lost some posture in his swing and is a little bit indecisive,’’ Boone said. “He’s not quite locked in. … I think he’s sound physically.”

Any hopes Ben Heller might join the bullpen in the second half took a shot when the right-hander was pulled back from his rehab assignment with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with issues in his elbow and forearm, Boone said.

Heller had pitched 6 ²/₃ scoreless innings in his return from 2018 Tommy John surgery, including 4 ²/₃ with SWB, but he will return to New York to see team physician Chris Ahmad.
