Tom Brokaw dramatically cuts price of vacation home

Legendary journalist Tom Brokaw has cut the price of his Pound Ridge, NY, vacation home to $4.25 million. This is a significant reduction from when the country estate first came on the market a year ago, for $6.3 million.

Brokaw and his wife, Meredith Auld, bought the property for around $4.25 million in 1998. After closing costs, they likely won’t break even on a home they’ve owned for a couple of decades.

As part of the renewed sales effort, a new agent represents the listing and some of the rooms in the home now appear staged.

Located an hour north of Manhattan, the five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home comes with 36 acres, including a private 5-acre lake and a dock for swimming, boating, and fishing.

Built in 1996, the shingle-style main house features a great room with an 18-foot-high ceiling, a stone fireplace, and wide-plank wood floors. Three sets of French doors open to a screened porch.

The chef’s kitchen comes with bar seating and an island. The glassed-in dining area is graced by an elegant chandelier. The main-floor master suite comes with water views and a private terrace.

Outside there’s a pool, guesthouse, and three-car garage with an apartment. In addition, two approved building lots with lake frontage are available at 10 acres each, should the buyer want to create a family compound.

Brokaw, 79, was the anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News,” from 1982 to 2004. The journalism legend came under fire last year, facing accusations of unwanted sexual advances, which Brokaw denies.

He currently serves as a special correspondent for the network and contributes to projects for other news outlets. In 2013, Brokaw announced he had been diagnosed with cancer. He’s being treated for multiple myeloma.

Brokaw and Auld have owned a ranch in Montana, and spend winters on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
