This year, Mohonk Mountain House rings in its 150th year in operation. The iconic sprawling resort in New Paltz, near Poughkeepsie, has a year-long roster of celebratory activities and special events.
Its founders, the Smiley family, will join history tours, bonfire talks and hikes over the weekends of June 28 to 30 and Nov. 1 to 3.
(In 1869, conservation buff Albert Smiley bought 280 acres and a 10-room inn by a lake; its expansion resulted in the Victorian castle style familiar to weekenders today.)
A more edible treat: The 259-room hotel partnered with Hudson Valley-based Jane’s Ice Cream to make a signature flavor, Mohonk Mountain Crunch, with vanilla, chocolate-covered pretzels, dark chocolate fudge and a salted caramel swirl.
$765 for double occupancy.
