Video shows deer crashing college baseball game in Ohio

They’re the rookies of the deer.

It was bottom of the first inning with Case Western Reserve University’s baseball team up to bat — but suddenly away team Brandeis added three new players on the field — a trio of prancing deer.

“We have a deer time out,” said CWRU Assistant Athletic Director and commentator Jon Schwartz in a video posted to Youtube. “Some things just kind of speak for themselves folks.”

The animals made their way through the ballpark, darting by Brandeis’ confused outfielders, until they settled on left field as their prime seats for the game. The critters exited via right field about a minute later.

“And after the rude greeting, the deer will depart,” commentated Schwartz.

CWRU baseball head coach Matt Englander said the entire team thought the charade was hilarious. “You never know what you’ll see happen in baseball,” he told the Post. “That’s part of the game’s beauty.

“It was wild to see them run out there, everyone had a pretty good laugh.”

Schwartz — a New York native who graduated from Townsend Harris High School in Queens — was shocked by the spectacle. “We’re in downtown Cleveland,” he said. “It’s usual to have deer out here.”

He said this wasn’t the only bizarre animal antic he’s seen at a baseball game.

When he took the team to Sanford Memorial Stadium in Florida for a conference tournament a few years ago, Schwartz said osprey would fly overhead, dropping fish onto the field.

“Everyone likes when animals do random stuff,” Schwartz told The Post.

CWRU lost 7-5, but beat Brandeis 6-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Englander said his team is playing some good ball, finishing the regular season 22-17 and waiting to hear about their post-season chances.

Englander said CWRU have embraced their new furry fans.

“The Cleveland Browns had a rally possum, so we have a rally deer.”
