‘Horror House’ parents David and Louise Turpin get life for abusing 12 kids

The depraved couple who tortured and starved their 12 children in a California “Horror House” were sentenced to life behind bars Friday.

David and Louise Turpin — who kept the emaciated siblings shackled to furniture with chains and padlocks for months at a time — burst into tears after they were handed down the sentencing at Riverside County criminal court.

Before the pair was handed the sentence, two of their adult children told the court they are tormented by the abuse they suffered at the hands of their parents.

“My parents took my whole life from me, now I’m taking my life back,” one of their college-aged daughters, known only as Jane Doe No. 4, defiantly told the court.

“Life may have been bad, but it made me strong… I’m a fighter, I’m strong.”

One of their sons, Joshua, said he still suffers from nightmares.

“I cannot describe in words what I went through growing up. Sometimes I still have nightmares about

things like my siblings being chained up,” he said, adding he’s now free to attend college.

He quoted a Bible passage and added, “I love my parents and have forgiven them.”

The parents have 13 children in all. The deranged mom and dad held the siblings, who ranged in age from 2 to 29, captive inside their Perris, Calif., home for years before their 17-year-old daughter escaped through a window and called 911 in January 2018.

Cops discovered five malnourished and unwashed children shackled inside the home. Seven of their captives were their adult children — ages 18 to 29 — but were so badly malnourished they appeared to be much younger.

The siblings were often beaten, whipped with belts and tied up for months at a time, prosecutors said.

They were not allowed outside, were denied showers, medical care and food.

The couple pleaded in February to 14 charges, including cruelty and torture, in a deal prosecutors said would likely keep them in prison for the rest of their lives.

Before the sentencing Friday, a woman also read a statement from a third sibling, who defended her parents.

“I want the court to know that our parents loved each other and loved each of their children,” the girl said. “My mom didn’t want to use rope or chains, but she didn’t want her children taking in too much sugar or caffeine.”

She added, “Our parents didn’t know we were malnourished” and requested that they be jailed at a detention center nearby, so she could visit them.

Louise Turpin, 50, cried after the sentencing as she told the judge, “I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to hurt my children.”

A tearful David Turpin, 57, added, “I love my children. … My homeschooling and discipline was good intention[ed].”

After their 17-year-old daughter escaped, the teen told investigators she had been choked so hard by her mother for watching a Justin Bieber video, she thought she would die.

She also said her father pulled her pants down when she was 12 years old and pulled her onto his lap. He also tried to kiss her on the mouth several times, she said.

The couple was charged with 12 counts of torture and false imprisonment, as well as nine counts of child abuse and seven counts of cruelty to a dependent adult. David Turpin was also hit with charges tied to lying to obtain a home schooling license.
