Subway announcements tell riders to wear headphones

The problem of subway riders listening to music, watching movies, and playing video games without headphones has gotten so bad that the MTA had to direct its conductors to tell the rude riders to stifle it.

“You can help everyone have a great trip,” reads the message that the MTA wants conductors to recite. “Please use headphones at a volume only you can hear.”

Riders say they are fed up with their fellow straphangers’ blaring devices.

“It’s disrespectful,” said Al Collins, 30.

MTA officials said the number of complaints they’ve received about noise on trains has increased, but they declined to give a specific number.

But stats show that cops gave out only 37 summons in 2018 for playing sounds on the subway without using headphones or earbuds.
