Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasts Paul Manafort’s ‘little’ jail sentence

Freshman New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Paul Manafort’s “little” jail sentence Thursday, saying that its proof the US justice system is broken.

The Bronx-born congresswoman said that Manafort — the former Trump campaign manager convicted of tax and bank fraud — showed that a wealthy person receives less jail than a low-income person.

“Paul Manafort getting such little jail time for such serious crimes lays out for the world how it’s almost impossible for rich people to go to jail for the same amount of time as someone who is lower income,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

She added: “In our current broken system, ‘justice’ isn’t blind. It’s bought.”

Earlier Thursday, President Trump’s former campaign chairman was sentenced to just under four years in prison for a massive fraud scheme tied to his work as a political consultant for Ukraine’s pro-Russian government.

Sentencing guidelines recommended 19 1/2 to 24 years. But Judge T.S. Ellis III said that was “excessive.”
