Groom choke-slams wife’s ‘ex’ at their wedding

Instead of a romantic first dance, this groom, who’s also a WWE superfan, wanted to orchestrate a wrestling match to celebrate the occasion.

On Saturday, Texas man Nick Boulanger shocked his guests when he choke-slammed his new wife’s “ex-boyfriend” through a table at the reception.

But it turns out it was all part of an elaborate plan.

Both the groom and his bride, Alex Bravata, are professional wrestling fans, and they wanted to bring their unique passion to their special day.

“We’ve been engaged for a while and we wanted to put our own stamp on it, we didn’t want it to be one of those typical weddings where it’s all romantic and then you have the dance,” Boulanger, a 30-year-old IT project manager, told People.

“I like professional wrestling, so I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time.”

To pull it off, Boulanger teamed up with local wrestler Steve Patin — whose stage name is Steve O Reno — to create a script for the reception. Patin would play Bravata’s ex-boyfriend who wanted to crash the wedding and win her back. The two men would then duke it out for her affection.

“He absolutely loves wrestling and he’s a true professional — the stuff he goes through, like getting thrown over tables, hit by chairs!” Boulanger said about Patin.

“And we worked together to develop a script and he was very professional. He would redline it and add his own creative input and everything.”

In order to create the unforgettable moment, Boulanger built his own table with the weakest wood he could find.

“There is no wrestling store out there or anything where you could actually just buy these breakaway tables or stuff like that,” Boulanger, said. “I actually found a video on YouTube and put it together myself.”

And, most importantly, no one at the wedding knew except for Boulanger’s groomsmen.

The skit included a showdown between the two men, escalating from a shoving match to a full-out brawl. The video showed Boulanger grabbing Patin’s neck and slamming him through the table.

“Oh man, it was awesome,” Boulanger said. “It was always kind of a dream.”

The groom then uploaded the exchange on his Instagram, and quickly became a social media sensation, attracting thousands of likes.

“To do that in front of all the people that we love, at our wedding, and just seeing the table explode like that — it was just so awesome,” Boulanger said.
