Acting AG Whitaker says Mueller probe ‘close to being completed’

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is “close to being completed,” the acting attorney general said Monday.

Acting AG Matt Whitaker, who oversees the special counsel probe, told reporters on Monday that he has been briefed on the progress on the investigation and expects to see the results in the near future.

“Right now the investigation is I think close to being completed,” Whitaker said. “I have been fully briefed on the investigation. I look forward to Director Mueller delivering the final report.”

Mueller’s probe began in May of 2017 and has resulted in criminal charges against a number of aides to President Trump.

The president has decried the investigation as a partisan “witch hunt.”
