Stephen Colbert starts ‘petition’ for Cardi B to speak after State of the Union

Stephen Colbert is ready for Cardi B to get political again.

The “Late Show” host sent out a tweet on Wednesday night, saying he was starting a “petition” to get the rapper chosen by Democrats to deliver the rebuttal to President Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address.

“Sign it by retweeting this!” Colbert said.

The post has racked up over 11,000 retweets and 20,000 likes.

“Getting the popcorn ready,” joked one Twitter user.

Countless celebs and political figures have shown support for Cardi over the past week following her profanity-filled rant on Instagram about the government shutdown.

“This s–t is really f–king serious, bro…Our country is in a hellhole now,” seethed the “Money” rapper in a short video clip posted last Wednesday. “All for a f–king wall.”

The comments didn’t sit too well with Trump supporters, however.

“All these conservatives been harassing me and telling me the most disgusting things these past few days,” wrote Cardi on Twitter Tuesday. “Listen I’m not telling ya to turn liberal all I’m saying is to admit that your president is f–kin up this country right now! Liberal or conservative we ALL suffer as citizens.”

The president is scheduled to give his State of the Union speech on Jan. 29, but it could be postponed if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi follows through on her threats to “cancel” it on account of the shutdown.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that if the event does get scrapped, his administration would “do something in the alternative.”

“I don’t believe it’s ever happened before,” Trump said, calling the move “a great blotch on the incredible country that we all love.”

“It’s always good to be part of history,” he added, “but this is a very negative part of history.”
