Democrats move to censure Steve King over white nationalist outrage

Democrats on Monday moved to censure Congressman Steve King over his comments defending white supremacy.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) filed a resolution in the House to condemn and censure Steve King (R-Iowa) for remarks that “legitimize white supremacy and white nationalism as acceptable in today’s society.”

King made the offensive comments during an interview with The New York Times published last Thursday.

“White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” the lawmaker said in piece published.

After the interview was published, King backtracked on his comments, saying “I reject those labels and the evil ideology they define.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Sunday that he and his fellow Republicans are ready to take action against King as well.

When President Trump was asked about King’s white supremacist comments on Monday, he said “I haven’t been following it.”
