Mike McCarthy: I won’t coach in 2019

Mike McCarthy said he is taking his name out of consideration for any other NFL head-coaching jobs in 2019.

McCarthy, who was fired by the Packers this season, told NFL Network he has decided to sit out the upcoming season after the Jets hired Adam Gase.

He had said Tuesday night the Jets were the only team he was interested in, but they decided to hire Gase.

McCarthy said he was planning to spend time with his family and will look to return to the sidelines in 2020.

All the head-coaching vacancies are filled except for the Bengals and Dolphins jobs.
